Somerston's hotels have won an extraordinary 11 awards at the IHG Europe Conference, held in Athens. These accolades recognise excellence in customer service and experience and are a testament to the hard work of our hotel teams.

Torchbearer Award

The highest award for overall satisfaction, the Torchbearer Award recognises hotels that are in the top 3% of customer satisfaction scores and that have achieved excellent standards throughout the year. Only five Holiday Inn Express hotels in Europe achieved the award, three of which were Somerston hotels.

Quality Excellence Award

Given to only nine Holiday Inn Express hotels in the whole of Europe, the Quality Excellence award is presented to hotels which have delivered outstanding customer service.

Crisis Management Award

This Award goes to the hotel that has shown excellence in its management of a crisis and was won by the team at Holiday Inn Express Glasgow City Centre Riverside.

In November 2013, 10 people lost their lives and many more were injured when a Police helicopter crashed into the Clutha Vaults Bar in Glasgow which is opposite the Holiday Inn Express Glasgow – City Centre Riverside. In response to the accident the team on duty that evening put into action their crisis response plan, putting the hotel into lock-down and prioritising all access to the emergency services. Help was provided in the form of food, blankets, first aid, counselling and shelter on that fateful evening and over the following days to emergency teams and victims’ families.

IHG Academy Award

This award goes to the hotel, team or individual that has made a real contribution to creating economic opportunities in their local communities by setting up and running an IHG® Academy and was won by Holiday Inn Express Stoke On Trent

Revenue Management Contribution Award

The Revenue Management Contribution Award is for the individual or team that goes above and beyond to deliver exceptional Revenue Management performance and was won by Holiday Inn Express Swansea East
